In russia there are wide natural resource base.They are oil, natural gas, coal, lumbers and many other minerals.Because of these natural resources, environment is being destroyed.

Human activities caused serious environmental damage in many ways. For many years, natural resources were taken for human's need. Moreover, For Russia, because of Stalin's five- year plans, led to the massive exploitation and extraction of minerals and the construction of enormous factories.
Oil Pollution
One of the major pollution of the Soviet Union is frequent oil pipeline breaks and leakages. The fact that Russia has massive length of pipeline many problems occurs
Pollution at Norilsk
Norilsk is in western siberia. This city collects massive amount of minerals ore. Such as nickel, copper, cobalt, and platinum group. Because of this, sulfur dioxide are made while they are collecting ores. This sulfur dioxide blacken snow, kills tress for miles around, and poisons the river.
Nuclear Pollution
On 1986, Chernoby1 Nuclear reactor exploded, which have become symbol of disasters. This explosion affected most of the area through north of Kiev to North of Belarus. Nuclear dumps were released to rivers, lakes and seas. This affected farmers, that they couldn't raise crops properly.
Threatened Fisheries
Black sea was being raised by many countries since it is connected to 5 countries that those countries were trying to protect black sea from getting polluted. However, because of oil, toxic waste, ships ballast water and nutrients from fertilized fields, their project to protect black sea had fail and pollution of black sea had affected many countries by either environmentally and economically.
Reason for why natural resources are causing such a environmental problems are
Transport, collecting, and modifying materials.
